Why Alum Block?

      What is alum block?

   And how does this help me shave?

Alum block has been used for centuries to calm damaged skin and as a natural deodorant and antiperspirant.  Potassium alum has natural antiseptic and astringent properties which stop bleeding on the spot, tone the skin and close the pores.  This makes alum block the perfect closer for a perfect shave, as you will be left with a fresh, toned feeling and will be protected from razor burn and other irritations.

   Got it, but now how do I use it?

There are many alum block techniques so feel free to use what works best for you.


Here is the Gentleman’s routine:

• After shaving, wash the face with cold water and leave face wet.
• Wet your alum block, and apply directly onto skin.  The wet alum block will glide across your skin easily, and will leave a light residue which you will not see.  You will feel the block working immediately as it stops any bleeding. closes pores, and tones your skin.
• After applying, leave alum application on your face for a few seconds.
• Wash face with cold water to remove any residue.  Alum only takes a short while to work it’s magic so it is not necessary to keep it on your face for very long.

   Why haven't I used this before?

You likely have.  Potassium alum has a variety of uses in our world – it is used in the preparation of flour and cheese and is used in many other OTC oral health products due to its astringent properties.  Alum is also widely used for water clarification, seafood preservation, and even pickling.  Though it has been in use for shaving for centuries, alum blocks have largely been ignored until the classic shaving movement of late.  Now that people are getting away from the marketing and getting back to a better shave, alum blocks have been rediscovered, and the Gentleman is here to ensure you get the best value for your hard earned money.
